Striker Paulo Dybala has enjoyed great success in his debut season with current league leaders Juventus. Prior to making the big move to Turin this past summer from Palermo, the 22-year old star explained that he did have a brief chat with Inter manager Roberto Mancini over a potential offer to play with the San Siro side.
After losing Carlos Tevez to a homecoming with Boca Juniors, Juventus swooped in to ensure they perfectly replaced the Argentina star by landing prized striker Paulo Dybala from Palermo in an estimated €35m move. While Milan were in on adding the future superstar themselves, rivals Inter also hoped to hijack his potential move to the bianconeri, only to have it quickly rejected by the player himself.
Dybala spoke to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport on his discussion with Roberto Mancini, manager of the nerazzuri:
“Before joining Juventus, I had a talk with Mancini. I thanked him for the call, but I always wanted to join Juventus because they are the stronger team.”
If Dybala did elect to play for the San Siro club, it would have seen him unite with fellow countryman, Mauro Icardi, inevitably forming one of the best young tandems in Europe. Dybala on the Inter striker:
“Mauro is a striker who is at his best inside the area. I am more of a support striker. Mauro is a bit like Mandzukic. They play the same role.”
Despite not joining up with the co-capocannoniere winner from 2014-15, Dybala still hopes to play alongside him in the future:
“He is doing well and I am happy for him because he is also an Argentine. Maybe we will play together for Argentina one day.”
Since arriving to Juventus, Dybala has shined. In his debut season, he has tallied an impressive 17 goals while providing eight assists throughout all competitions. He also scored his first ever European goal on Tuesday, helping the 2014-15 Champions League runner-up erase a two-goal deficit to earn a draw against Bayern Munich in the first leg in the Round of 16 clash.
