In an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke of the two losses against Juventus and Villarreal and more:
“Our last two games were evenly played that both finished 1-0. Although we did not manage to score in these games, we had scored 78 goals in 34 games which is incredible. Everyone says how we are dependent on Gonzalo Higuain however every big team relies on their star players.”
“We really played on par with both the Serie A league leaders and La Liga’s 4th best team, people must look at it this way.”
De Laurentiis then went on to add some insight on Bologna’s 0-0 draw with Juventus, “Bologna is a very well managed squad. Donadoni is a great motivator. Moreover, they are a squad that puts a lot of responsibility on their youth products. Juventus was on 15 wins in a row, accidents can happen along the way as no one can win every game.”
Next, De Laurentiis was asked about how a fully sold-out Stadio San Paolo can have an effect in the matches vs Milan and Villarreal. “I saw a lot of tranquility within Villarreal’s squad. We are thinking about Monday, even the fans are doing the same, then we will see how we should approach the match vs Villarreal. They will give it their all, just like us.”
Napoli have two very important home games coming up in quick succession as they take on AC Milan at the Stadio San Paolo on Monday with the thought of retaking first place in mind. Then, 3 days later, they have a very important return leg in the EL against Villarreal where they will try to overcome a 1-0 deficit handed to them away at the Madrigal. Both games will take place respectively at 3pm EST.
