Sarri calls Villareal one of the strongest teams in the Europa League and believes his squad needs to be patient in their play.
Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri addressed the media in the press conference leading up to his squad’s Europa League match against Villareal on Thursday:
We must play a normal game without the conditions a comeback affecting us, otherwise we will get nervous after 20 minutes. We will have to attack but it does not mean we cannot be compact, and we must not allow counters. We need clarity and distribute the ball better because they can counter with speed and technique.
On the tactical plan:
They are a solid team. They have only given up two goals in 11 games if I am correct. It will be a game where defense is key, in attack we will have to be conscious and patient.
On Villareal’s characteristics:
They are one of the strongest teams in the competition, a mix of young and experienced players. They have talents who will become important players. In 3-4 years, take a look at their formation and we will see those important players. We need to score but also defend well because they can control the ball and counter. In their last game against Atlético, they conceded two goals while we created more away from home. But those who play for Napoli are said to be poor. They said the same about Midtjylland too who then went on to beat Manchester United.
