The banned ex-FIFA President Sepp Blatter has told Argentine newspaper La Nacion that he knows UEFA Club Competition draws have been rigged.
Speaking in an interview with La Nacion, the shamed ousted President Sepp Blatter claims to know than an Italian team had been involved in a draw-fixing scandal at a gala.
How do you do it on live TV with the whole world watching? According to Blatter, simple, you make the balls hot or cold so the person drawing would know.
“Yes. I saw it with my own eyes and it was like cheating,” Blatter claimed. “It was for a European competition. Only one team has managed that. It was an Italian side.”
Of course, Blatter is known to have an anti-Italian bias, including the shameful act of being the only ever sitting FIFA President to not award the World Cup trophy to the winners himself.
“You can see the balls that are drawn identified either by making them hot, or if they have been cooled. I was a witness.”
Another talking point that should be brought up is the fact that he never decided to expose the alleged ‘rigging plot’. Which means that Blatter’s hands aren’t exactly clean in this incident either. Surprised?
“I’ve never drawn lots. Other presidents did,” he said. “They have taken the balls themselves from the pot. I was clean to the last.”
In the past 2 years, FIFA, the governing body of organized football has been raided numerous times by police in Switzerland, where the body is headquartered. With corruption and conspiracy theories rife, and seemingly nobody clean at the top, including new president Gianni Infantino, it’s a situation where nobody can be for certain who’s side anybody is on.
Of course, Blatter did not mention the Italian team that he was referencing – probably due to fear that there would be an embarrassing retaliation.
