Italy beat Spain the Round of 16 to progress to the quarterfinals, defender Giorgio Chiellini claimed this is just the start.
Speaking to Sky after the end of the match, the Italian defender was unable to suppress his joy.
“We’re just at the beginning of something beautiful. Today we removed a ‘curse’ from the times of Vienna to Kiev. Spain was our nemesis and you could see that we had something special inside us today. We should’ve closed the game earlier, in the last few minutes we suffered greatly, but behind us we have a Saint on earth.”
“Italy isn’t just defending and counterattacking. We’ve always said that, we have our strengths and we have our flaws but it’s important to maintain humility. Now we play against the world champions but we want to do well and do something extraordinary.”
“My goal? I know Eder was going to kick it hard and I went in for the rebound.”
