Speaking to Rai Sport, Bonucci confessed that this loss really stung the hearts of the Italian players.
“It always hurts to lose, especially in games at these levels. Today we were missing a few things, we weren’t good like against Belgium and Sweden. The fact I was a card away from a suspension weight a lot on me, because I wasn’t aggressive nor polished on my tackles and on the ball at midfield. Tonight I made a few individual mistakes, even really costly ones, but we must learn from it.”
The Azzurri take on Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday.
