Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Dzeko has rejected a Premier League move to Sunderland, per Gianluca Di Marzio.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that Sunderland had offered £11m for the former Manchester City striker. However, the Giallorossi deemed that too low as they valued him around £15m despite a less than impressive 2015-16 season. With the transfer window set to open in the coming hours and Roma ready to invest for the upcoming season, the 30-year old has rejected a return to England and has informed the club that he wishes to stay and prove himself.
The ex-Wolfsburg star featured in 31 matches for Roma’s third-place finishing campaign, scoring just eight goals with five assists.
Last year, Luciano Spalletti often fielded a three-man attack that included Stephan El Shaarawy, Diego Perotti as a false nine and Mohamed Salah, keeping Dzeko on the bench during a chase at a Champions League spot. At this point, it’s unclear as to whether Roma will be forced into accepting an offer below their demands in order to make room for players that fit the scheme for the 2016-17 season.
