Fiorentina is back at the top of the table after dominating Frosinone in a 4-1 win.
After a tough week losing three in a row, Fiorentina are back to their winning ways with victories over Verona and Frosinone. Although Fiorentina is tied with Inter on points, they have better goal differential at +13 which is quite impressive. The other intriguing fact so far this season is coach Paulo Sousa‘s rotation of players. He has not been afraid to get playing time for almost everyone. He considers his roster as a unit composed of players where everyone is a starter.
This has been fruitful in league play but not in Europa League. Fiorentina need to get some victories in their next few games if they hope to move on to the next stage.
Speaking to Radio RAI, Sousa expressed his satisfaction about moving up to first again.
“After taking control of the game with the amount of goals we scored in the first half, we slowed down our pace and conceded a goal to our opponent which I wasn’t happy about. However there were many positive things, not only our play but also our supporters who are encouraging us and proud of what we are accomplishing.”
Sousa went on to discuss the back end and need for a reinforcement.
“We spoke about the need (for a defender) from the start of the season, it is a role that we are looking to fulfill and the club is working on it. We are waiting for the right fit to make our back end more balanced. “
In ending, Sousa praised his players:
“We are doing good things. From the beginning the lads are understanding my ideas and believe in them. They are working to having the right attitude that will allow us to compete at home or away, trying to win and they are doing it.”
Next up for Fiorentina, a must win Europa League match versus Lech Poznan.
