The former World Cup winner believes Italy are heading into the EURO under the right conditions and that unity will be crucial for the squad.
One of football’s greatest #10’s and Juventus icon, Alessandro Del Piero was recently present in Torino for the 70th anniversary of the Vespa and had the opportunity to speak with the media, via Corriere dello Sport, about Italy and the EURO:
Italy are starting under optimal conditions. They are not favorites, the pressure is just right, the group is strong and solid, have clear ideas and communicate in the same way, between players and coach. Unity is essential. We have seen in the course of the past few years, that everything is possible, even more at the EUROs. Just think of Greece and Denmark. When you are united against everything, every goal is possible.
On Totti’s contract renewal at Roma:
Finally. Between Totti’s experience and my own, there is a meeting point but also substantial differences. However, I am very happy for him and Roma, for taking this step together.
On Juventus:
Winning the Champions League is not easy for anyone, even for those who invest twice as much as Juventus. I do not believe that Juventus need self-esteem. In the last two years, their importance on an international level has been growing. Last year, it was a little surprising when they reached the Final. This year, they were 30 seconds away from passing the second round against Bayern, a team that has invested a lot. Juventus have the self-esteem and awareness. Juventus, like other clubs and like all of Italian football, is a great brand on an international level. Perhaps Serie A has lost its charm in respect to the other leagues but the results on an international level are there.
On the Chinese investing in Serie A clubs like Inter and Milan:
I believe it is a part of the modernization. We are adapting to the Premier League
On the absence of a #10 in the Azzurri :
I am waiting for a call from the CT (laughs).
On the newly appointed CT of La Nazionale :
Ventura has all the characteristics to do well in the National Team and he also has a great squad.
