Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel has been a red hot name on the transfer market for several seasons now. Napoli may write up a strategy to bring the 27 year-old midfielder to the Stadio San Paolo.
Although Napoli are linked to several other midfielders such as Hector Herrera, Piotr Zielinski and Roberto Soriano, highly reliable Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has also thrown Axel Witsel into the conversation.
However, the talented Belgian midfielder has a very high annual salary which could make a potential deal very difficult. Witsel reportedly makes around €4.2m per year. These numbers are astronomical for Napoli, however, Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club could still make a push for Witsel as they have some extra cash due to their direct qualification into next season’s Champions League.
Although Witsel does not intend to take a pay-cut, Napoli may still be able to negotiate around the players’ high wages and could strike a deal.
