Lichtsteiner: “I Wanted to Win but the Red Card Changed Things.”

After the game, Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner expressed his bitterness at the result due to the red card but believes it’s a crucial point.

Just a month ago, Lichtsteiner was undergoing heart surgery. Today, he scored the crucial equalizer against Borussia Moenchengladbach that has his side one point away from qualification to the round of sixteen of the Champions League. After the game, he told reporters,:

“I didn’t expect this game to play out as it did because I wanted to win. All in all, judging by how the game went and taking the red card into consideration, we should be satisfied. It was important for me to return to the fold quickly even if I have only trained with the team in the last two sessions. Right now, it’s a delicate moment for us. It was important that I gave a hand to the team.”

With a point in one of their last two games against Manchester City or Sevilla, Juventus will qualify for the round of sixteen. In two week’s time, they will host the English giants in a clash that will define the rest of the group. Should they falter in Turin, they will then travel to Sevilla in the last match-day of group action.
