With Antonio Conte leaving the national team post after the Euros for Chelsea, there is a major vacancy.
In recent days, a number of names have been linked with the Azzurri job. In an interview today with Sportmediaset Walter Zenga said:
“The next national team manager will be Gianni De Biasi.”
This is what Carlo Tavecchio had to say about the rumors,:
“Until the 21st of May, I will not be making any decisions as from now to then a lot of things will change that can affect our decision.”
De Biasi, however, has emerged as a legitimate candidate for the job following his good work with Albania. Under his guidance, Albania qualified for their first ever Euros. That said, Fabio Capello remains Tavecchio’s first choice for the job despite the former Russia tactician’s prior denials. The main stumbling block is his wage but certain sponsors will help in this respect like they did with Antonio Conte.
Other than Capello, there are a few other candidates. The names of Ventura, Gasperini and Donadoni have come up but are less possible at this moment and time. With Capello as his main target, Tavecchio is set to push hard for the former Juventus man.
