Napoli played host to severely struggling Hellas Verona this morning at the Stadio San Paolo. Here is how we rate each and every Napoli player’s performance:
Starting XI:
Pepe Reina (7): Although there wasn’t much to do for the Napoli shot-stopper, Reina, as per usual, led the back-line to perfection, with Hellas Verona only amounting 1 shot on target.
Elseid Hysaj (6): It wasn’t Hysaj’s best performance today, with the Albanian full-back usually putting in top class performances. Although looking a bit off, Hysaj stood his ground and did not let much get past him.
Raul Albiol (6.5): Albiol’s performance today was very solid, allowing little to nothing to go past him. However, as with Hysaj, Albiol did not look his usual self today. All in all, a solid performance from the Spaniard.
Vlad Chiriches (7.5): Big Vlad was arguably Napoli’s best defender today. The strong Romanian stood his ground and played every pass/ tackle to perfection.
Faouzi Ghoulam (7): Ghoulam was part of most of Napoli’s attacks throughout the match. The Algerian bombed forward at every chance he had and tirelessly worked back to stop multiple Verona counter attacks. A good day for Ghoulam.
David Lopez (6): Lopez was solid for the most part however he let a few passes get away from him and lost his man a few times too many in the midfield. Despite a few struggles, David still managed to be dangerous on the attack quite a few times.
Jorginho (8): What more is there to say about this gem of a player? The Brazilian-born now Italian international shows us week after week why he deserves to go to Euro 2016. Jorginho completed pretty much every pass he attempted and had an excellent game overall.
Marek Hamsik (8.5): Hamsik was today’s man of the match. Almost everything the Napoli legend touched turned to gold. He had so many dangerous passes through to Jose Callejon that terrorized the fragile Verona defense. Arguably one of his best performances of the season.
Jose Callejon (8): Certainly one of his best outings of the year, Callejon expressed why he is so important to this Napoli side. Jose was extremely dangerous in attack, timing every run to perfection. He always tracked back to help out on defense as well. Callejon is certainly a mainstay in this current Napoli side.
Manolo Gabbiadini (7): On his first start in nearly 7 months, Gabbiadini had a lot to prove by stepping into a suspended Higuain’s shoes today. Manolo proved he deserves more of a chance wreaking havoc time and time again today. Oh, and he scored the opening goal of the game.
Lorenzo Insigne (7.5): Insigne scored his 12th of the season from the spot today, placing the ball perfectly and out of reach of Gollini. The Neapolitan had an exceptional outing.
Substitutes:
Omar El Kaddouri (7.5): It was a pleasant surprise to see Napoli assistant coach Francesco Calzona look to El Kaddouri as Napoli’s first substitute today. Omar was very effective when coming on and provided the assist to Callejon’s goal.
Nathaniel Chalobah (N/A): Did not play long enough to gain a rating.
Ivan Strinic (N/A): Did not play long enough to gain a rating.
