Inter completed an important step towards their goal of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League by beating Napoli.
A crucial 2-0 win over 2nd place Napoli has sparked a wave of enthusiasm regarding Inter’s campaign, which at one point they held the lead in the race for the Scudetto.
However, tonight was an important checkpoint in the Nerazzurri’s march towards qualifying for next year’s UEFA Champions League, an objective that the club must reach according to CEO Erick Thohir.
When Mancini spoke to the press tonight, the question of whether this was Inter’s best performance of the season came up, and the ex-Manchester City boss was sure to not over-praise his team.

“I don’t know” -he said, “but we played excellently. The lads did very well, just as they have on other occasions. Icardi is young but players can improve even beyond their 30th birthday and Mauro’s a lot younger than that. He scores goals and he’s someone who consistently finds the net. If we are to have regrets about our league position, it won’t be until the end of the campaign. There’s still a month to go and we have to try and give everything”.
“Napoli are very good in possession and the fact we afforded them so few chances means the defence and midfield played very well. All of the players are a bit up and down. Kondogbia has great ability and he needs time to get used to Italian football just like all great players who join from abroad”.
“There are still plenty of points to play for, we have to fight and we’ll see where we are come 15 May. At times you do drop points and overall I think we’re on the right track. Unfortunately we’ve let too many points slip but that’s part of football. We’ve gone through some tough times, we had a bad run albeit with some undeserved results”.
Inter take on Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday evening.
