The Stadio Olimpico di Torino was formally renamed today to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in honor of the legendary Torinese side of the 40s.
Sassuolo traveled to Turin for a clash this afternoon with the intention of continuing the fight to finish in a Europa League position. While Torino were looking to crack into the top half of the table.
The match got after to a flying start with a second minute goal from Nicola Sansone followed by the equalizer from Bruno Peres. From then on in it became a dogfight as neither side looked able to fully control the match.
Sassuolo created several chances but failed to put most of them on target. Torino spent most the afternoon playing on the counter, but like their Neroverdi counterparts, they failed to put most of them on target. In the 75th minute Federico Peluso scored the go ahead goal followed my a late going Marcello Trotta goal to give Sassuolo a 3-1 win that would sustain them until the final whistle.
In the 6 meetings between the two clubs, today was the first time that Sassuolo had scored more than one goal against the Granata. The clubs had faced 5 times previously with the the results being equal. Two wins a piece and two draws.
At the moment, Sassuolo are only one point behind 6th place AC Milan, while Torino have remained just outside the top 10 in 12th place.
