Inter currently sit in 4th place and six points off of Champions League qualification.
At one point, we were talking about Inter possibly roaring back to life with a Scudetto winning campaign at the midway point of the season. However, things did not pan out well for the Nerazzurri and they now sit adrift from the top spot by a massive 18 points from league leaders Juventus.
However more importantly, Inter have fallen to six points behind Roma who occupy the last Champions League spot and tonight’s match with second place Napoli could not be any more important for the black and blue Milanese side.
Inter do have a big bonus heading into this match as Napoli’s prolific goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain will miss the match through suspension. However the Argentine is not the only threat the Partenopei possess as 4 out of the league’s 5 best passers ply their trade with Napoli, in the form of Jorginho, Marek Hamsik, Raul Albiol and Kalidou Koulibaly. Maurizio Sarri has a lot to work with in the midfield and this will bode well for his side.
The Nerazzurri will need a big performance up top from Mauro Icardi, who although isn’t on pace to score as many as he did last year when he won the Capocannoniere, he still has been a constant threat up top for Mancini’s men.
Inter will also call upon Eder to notch another goal for his new side, as Napoli are one of his best sides to play against. In 11 matches, the Brazil-born Azzurri forward has scored 5 goals against Napoli.
All in all, this match is a must win for Inter, in fact every match from here on out is a must win. Napoli and Roma play each other before the season ends so there is the possibility of picking up more points on third place Roma in a few weeks time. The incentive for Inter to come out to every game like it is a final is massive. As the FIFA Financial Fair Play sanctioned side is in desperate need of returning to the UEFA Champions League.
6 more games, 6 more finals for Inter this year, as the Nerazzurri have reached their ‘Alamo’ for the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign.
