Inter coach Roberto Mancini spoke in the press room following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Torino.
“As for the match, I believe that we have to continue fighting and today’s game was decided by isolated incidents. Nevertheless, in a situation like this when you’re in control, you have to get the second goal. The season isn’t over but we have to learn from our mistakes.
“There are moments in the season when everything is going well and others when you might concede just one shot on target and lose the game.”
Clearly frustrated with the referee’s performance in the match, Mancini voiced his displeasure towards Marco Guida.
“Miranda’s first yellow card shouldn’t have been given. The ball hit his shoulder and he was booked. Do you think it’s normal to show a yellow like that to a central defender before the midway point in the first half?”
“Your assessment of Torino’s penalty is perfect. Perhaps our penalty shouldn’t have been given as well, but that also led to Miranda’s first booking in a classic case of Italian referees balancing out decisions.”
“The two players on the right were completely out of position for their first goal. That simply cannot happen.
“However, I insist that we had chances to double our lead and kill off the contest. This is where we need to improve.
“Our ambition is always to do as much as we can and work as hard as we can to achieve the best result possible. We have to believe in ourselves right until the end.”
“We need time to build maturity. At the start of the season we were very focused and picked up some great results. Then we went through a tough patch where we got less than we deserved.”
