Return of Kaká propels Orlando City

In Kaká’s debut of the 2016 MLS season, Orlando City displayed a masterful performance against reigning MLS champions, Portland Timbers, 4-1.

After being sidelined with a thigh strain, which held him out of the club’s first three games, the Orlando captain’s return to the starting 11 certainly did not disappoint and his presence was felt immediately on the pitch. Entirely involved in Orlando’s attack, the former AC Milan golden boy provided two assists to teammates Seb Hines and Brek Shea as well as scoring a goal of his own.

All too familiar, Kaká, who led his team with a stellar 9.6% touch ratio one year ago, played an influential role by orchestrating the dynamic and tempo of the match. This undoubtedly will be a continuing trend for the Lions in the current campaign.

More so, in the 76th minute, when midfielder Kevin Molino, who returned this season from an ACL tear last May, drew a penalty, the captain selflessly gave the ball to him and told him to trust in himself. That man-of-the-match gesture was followed by Molino delivering his 1st MLS goal in front of a packed Citrus Bowl crowd, which could go a long way in building his teammate’s confidence.

The victory puts Orlando City in first place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
