Conte: “The Players are Improving, I’m Happy With the Performance.”

After the game Italy boss Antonio Conte spoke to reporters and highlighted the fact that his players are improving with each performance.

Going into the international break Antonio Conte’s objective was to get his side into Euro 2016. With wins against Azerbaijan and Norway, the former Juventus boss was able to do just that. After his side’s triumph over Norway, he told reporters,:

We must compliment the opposition, they are a strong team. I feel bad for them but this is football. We did what we had to do tonight. I’m happy with the effort my players put in, I always want to see this level of intensity from them.”

On the transition to the 4-2-4 that did well –

“Yes, but in my opinion we were causing them plenty of problems even before the switch. We only had three out and out wingers therefore it was always going to mean that we were going to move to a more offensive formation. We have to be ready to learn a variety of different styles of play.”

Italy won’t be seeded at the draw –

“We finished the qualifiers on 24 points and in first place. It’s really hard for me to understand how this is the case.”

On the performance –

“I’m happy even without taking into account the result. The performance was a very good one. In just two days, the players were able to interpret two styles of play in an organized fashion. I’m liking the players that are constantly improving. Now, we must continue to work hard.”

On the rumours linking him to a move away –

“I don’t think that it’s important to say if someone is staying or going six months before the tournament. Prandelli’s tenure as manager teaches us a valuable lesson. He did a very good job and renewed his deal before the World Cup. Then, whatever happened, happened and everything went down the drain.”
