AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi spoke to the press upon his visit to the Rossoneri’s training facility today.
The President touched on numerous topics such as Milan’s formation, investment situation, Donnarumma and how the Champions League is an ‘imperative objective’.
“We’re moving towards the classic Milan playing-style; ball on the deck and keeping possession. The coach has tried to play with two wide-men and one striker, but when we have Balotelli and Menez available again, we will go back to having a ‘trequartista’ and two forwards.
“Menez was our best player last season, it’s a shame about his back injury because with the changed Balotelli they would have been a real threat in attack, not to mention Bacca. When we have Menez back we will have the ‘trequartista’ that we wanted for this season.
“I always saw Boateng as a centre-forward, he’s not afraid to have a crack on goal, mentally and physically he’s suited to playing as a centre-forward. Donnarumma? It’s beautiful to have a 16-year-old up to the standard of Serie A. He will be our goalkeeper for the next 20 years.
“Bertolacci has improved a lot. I spoke to him and I told him that we were expecting another Bertolacci and he has indeed improved a lot. Even those at Genoa told me that he takes time to get going, but now October is over.”
“The Champions League is a categorical imperative. We cannot miss out on the Champions League. The project to commercialize the brand in the Far East, and especially in China, can only be done if Milan is a leader in Europe and in the World. Some incredible things have been written, some have even insinuated that Bee’s money is my capital abroad.
“I reiterate once more, if someone proves that Mr. Berlusconi has capital abroad, I will commit to giving 10 times the amount that is supposedly there to charity. The commercialization project, should it all go as we plan, would allow us to have an important revenue stream and therefore purchase some big players.”
“Milan, whichever team it faces, has to take to the pitch with maximum confidence, we have to dominate the play and the match. We should never take to the pitch without the utmost confidence of winning. Mihajlovic is a strong person, he’s never let himself get knocked down.
“I’ve always found him to be confident in helping Milan get positive results. We’re lucky that the league is see-sawing, if we had won at Torino we would only be 5 points off first place. To the players I have confirmed the usual backing of the club.”
