Sarri to Sky: “We need to stay balanced and focused, we have just reached the tenth match day. To make statements of any kind would be absurd; we need to only think of Genoa. We play every three days and in an energy stance, it is very difficult.”
Even Gonzalo Higuain, the club’s star striker and scorer of the first goal of the match, commented on not looking too far ahead at the competition between Napoli and Roma at the top of the table.
Higuain: “There is still a lot of time remaining until we reach the end of the season, but if we keep up this pace, it would surely be good. Two-man race with Roma? That’s yet to be said.”
Sarri then commented on Lorenzo Insigne’s reaction to being substituted for Dries Mertens and also made remarks regarding Mertens’ reaction after scoring Napoli’s second goal. Insigne showed that he was upset with the coach’s decision to being taken off the pitch. Then, after Mertens scored his goal, he showed no emotion and no attempt to celebrate. He even shoved his teammate away.
Sarri to Sky: “At my age, some things really don’t affect me. He (Insigne), however, will have to explain this lack of respect shown for his teammates. It’s possible that one can come out of the game annoyed. If Mertens gets angry like this all the time, entering and scoring, it’s fine with me.”
Napoli continues its surge for first place and will try to keep their hot winning streak alive when they face Genoa on Sunday.
