Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri assumed the blame following his side’s disappointing loss at the hands of an impressive Sassuolo.
After their 1-0 defeat to Eusebio Di Francesco’s men, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri deflected blame away from the referee and instead shouldered it himself. He told reporters,:
“You can’t blame the younger players. Absolutely not. The blame extends to everyone even to me. I am the first responsible for this. We have to improve. With a lot of youngsters in the middle of the park there was a chance that we were going to struggle but that’s no excuse. We had a good reaction and we must be happy with that but at the same time, we have to be angry with our first half performance.”
On the game as a whole –
“There was a sense of responsibility that was missing. We committed five fouls in and around our penalty area before we conceded. Then, we went down to ten men and played with nerves. This means that we are yet to grow in terms of accepting responsibility. We have to get out of this run of form. We will do this together and with hard work. Now, we have to prepare for our game on Saturday and then think about the Champions League.”
Was Marchisio’s absence felt?
“With a young midfield line, you lose experience and the ability to read a game. We committed too many fouls. This, however, is no excuse for our first half performance.”
Why did Lemina play from the beginning?
“He provided us with more defensive cover and because we played with highly offensive players on the wings. In the first part of the game, the rhythm of play was higher.”
Do some players not realize what it means to play for Juventus?
“There are some games that you have to be aware of what’s to come over the next ninety minutes. Today’s game was really important, we couldn’t lose anymore ground on the Scudetto race. This wasn’t the case. You and I both know the strengths and weaknesses of younger players. Marchisio had the flu tonight while I decided to rest Khedira. This is not a justification because we have a really good team and our younger players are growing. We lost by conceding one shot from a free kick which really tells the whole story.”
You were clearly unhappy with the referee tonight.
“It’s useless to talk about Gervasoni. He refereed the game the way he saw it. He saw the missed penalty but he didn’t see the elbow to Dybala’s face.”
