After the game Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo spoke to reporters and expressed his gratitude towards Antonio Conte for calling him up. This was the first time the player got the chance to play for Italy since his injury that ruled him out of the 2014 World Cup. He told Sky Sport,:
“I’d like to thank Conte for showing faith in me and giving me confidence. Today, I put a negative period behind me as I hadn’t played for Italy in 17 months. I’m happy to be a part of this group.”
On his chances of going to the Euros in the summer –
“I received this call-up thanks to Milan and my play over there. I will always look to give my all when playing.”
On the jeers from the fans –
“I heard them. It was a real shame to go into the second half down a goal after the first half we played. All in all, the team played a very good game.”
On the formation –
“It will depend on the players. We have enough quality players that we are able to change formations during a game. It’s an advantage of ours.”
On how he is feeling after his return –
“I’m feeling better. Even with Milan it’s going good now. I’m happy with my performance today.”
