Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media following his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Atalanta and touched upon Paulo Dybala’s influence on the game among other things.
Following two consecutive stalemates against Inter and Borussia Moenchengladbach, Massimiliano Allegri was eager to see his side score goals again and opted for the partnership of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic. The duo would eventually both get their name on the scoresheet with a goal in each half. The former Milan boss told Mediaset Premium,:
“The players played really well. For the third game in a row, we managed not to concede a goal. That was very important for me. I’m just about satisfied even if we could have done better in the last twenty minutes.”
On the decision that saw Pogba take the penalty –
“Our penalty shot takers are Dybala, Pogba and Marchisio. Today, Dybala decided to give it to the Frenchman who is doing good but has to stop giving the ball away so cheaply on certain occasions.”
Thoughts on people criticizing him for his use of Dybala –
“I’m not thinking about anything, I believe in what I’m doing. People could say what they want about me and can even say that I’m not a good coach. They, however, can never say that I don’t know how to handle youngsters. I’ve shown this from my time with Cagliari all the way to Juventus. I’ll continue to work how I always have.”
What did you think of Dybala’s performance?
“I liked it, in the same way I liked Pereyra’s performance. He came from Palermo and with all due respect, it’s different playing here than in Sicily. He was a leader while here we cannot give him too many responsibilities. The amount of balls he touches here is different to what he would do at Palermo. He has to still get better.”
Will Dybala start assuming responsibility?
“Surely, I never said the opposite. He has to grow, he’s 21 and has great quality. He has to get a lot better because we play differently than in Palermo.”
Did Dybala put in a Tevez-esque performance tonight?
“I have never called into question Dybala’s quality. He’s always played and over the course of the season, players have highs and lows. The Argentine has to grow technically, tactically and physically. He can become a champion.”
Three games without a goal conceded. How do you explain that?
“The team continues to work together and has grown from a physical standpoint.”
