Lazio secure three big points despite playing with only 10 men for over 80 minutes.
The capital club is now atop group G after the 3-1 victory. Lazio showed great poise and did not lose confidence after Mauricio was sent off once again, this time after only 6 minutes.
Veteran forward Alessandro Matri scored in the 28th minute to break the tie and give the home side the lead. Shortly after halftime Brazilian play maker Felipe Anderson made it 2-0. Rosenborg cut the lead in half in the 69th minute however Antonio Candreva was able to put the nail in the coffin after having his penalty saved and putting in the rebound.
Lazio manager Stefano Pioli spoke to Sky Sport 24 following the big victory.
“I knew this group would be difficult and balanced, it was very important for us to win tonight. The game had started badly, we have to stop making these errors.
“I saw a great response from my players. They needed to make an extra effort. Running for your teammate and playing for the team is our mentality.”
When asked about Mauricio, Pioli said:
“He committed a serious error, which suggests little concentration. It should not happen in role that is so delicate. We need to eliminate such negligence in order to be ambitious and do well.”
