Last week I sat down and wrote about why Paulo Dybala needed to start against Atalanta and how Juventus need to go all in on the Argentina starlet.
Dybala proved to the all of Serie A that he is living up to the billing. He scored and assisted another in Juve’s 2-0 win over the boys from Bergamo and was by far the star of the match. He is the leading scorer for Juventus with 4 goals on the season and it’s become nearly impossible to leave him on the bench. But what about the other youngsters the Old Lady has brought into the fold?
Alex Sandro has been given a couple of games, but it’s been difficult to keep him in the lineup with Patrice Evra in scintillating form. However, Sandro has been given exponentially more time than Italian defender Daniele Rugani, who has seen the pitch for less than 120 seconds this season.
Yes, Rugani’s season can be summed up with as much playing time as it takes to sing the Italian national anthem. Two minutes in a stoppage time cameo in the UEFA Champions League against Sevilla. This is the same guy who played every minute of every game at Empoli last season for tactician Maurizio Sarri, who is now at Napoli.
Daniele Rugani at the age of 20 made his debut in Serie A last season making all 38 appearances and scored three goals. The most incredible stat for Rugani has been the fact he was not booked. For any player, much less a defender that’s an incredible feat. It glistens discipline and promise for someone who is arguably the most talented Italian to come through the ranks since the golden age of Italian football.

Juventus are in desperate need of accumulating wins, with just 5 out of the opening 12 in all competitions, it’s clear to see why Allegri is taking no chances. But it’s time to demonstrate why Rugani was signed in the first place.
Arsenal have been linked with Rugani as well as Napoli but it’s unlikely that Juventus or the defender will seek a move in January. It would be a shock to see such a young talent abandoned so soon after singing.
Sassuolo won’t be an easy match, especially at the Mapei Stadium, but in either formation, Daniele Rugani could fit in nicely. Max Allegri did however confirm that Barzagli would be starting, which means that in order for the young Lucca born defender to get a start, Chiellini or Bonucci will have to be shuffled from the pack.
It’s difficult to break into the fold for any senior side for a youngster, but when you have three of Italy’s best defenders to compete against, it’s hard to make an impact, but he certainly does deserve a shot.
