Mancini: “The referees are dishing out too many cards”

Inter head coach Roberto Mancini spoke with reporters on tonight’s hard fought victory against Bologna on the road at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

“I didn’t agree with Felipe Melo’s sending off, but you can hardly expect me to. The referees are dishing out too many cards. We can’t send off players for fouls like that otherwise the game will never improve. This is the third match we’ve had to play a man light. We can’t go on like this – games should be played 11 v 11. The same thing happened at Palermo, where Murillo should never have been given a second yellow.

“As for my own sending off, you’ll have to ask the referee about that because I said nothing wrong at all.”

The manager then discussed the performance of his team.

“Were we too limp in the first half? Definitely. I expect a lot more from them. We were too slow in building play from the back, we lacked intensity and showed little movement. We struggled to pick out players between the lines and found it hard to get into space. We did much better after the break, even after going down to ten men. But we need more consistency to our play.”

Mancini also commented on Mauro Icardi getting back on the score sheet and providing Inter with all three points.

“We’re pleased for Mauro and I’m very happy because his goals are important for us. Brozovic and Ljajic did brilliantly in the build-up. We need to be a bit of patient. The goals will come and his understanding with Jovetic will get better too.”
