Juventus forward Alvaro Morata has signed a new contract tying him down to the Italian champions until 2020.
Juventus announced that Morata signed a renewal today despite already having a contract in place until 2019. The new deal will, however, extend his current one by another year and will now expire on June 30, 2020. In the past, much has been made about Real Madrid’s buyback clause on the player but it appears that Morata wants to stay in Turin for the time being.
The former Real Madrid man has never hid the fact that while the galacticos are his childhood club, he wants to stay with Juventus. In an interview earlier this month Morata said,:
“I’m discussing a contract renewal with Juventus, and everything is going smoothly. As for the Real Madrid rumours, I let it all slide off me. The only thing that interests me is playing as much as possible for Juventus and winning titles. After that, anything people say is not my problem.”
Morata wants to stay and by offering the player a new deal, it seems that the feeling is mutual. In addition to this, it serves as a true “hands-off” to Real Madrid and their buyback clause. The player has already proved himself to be decisive on the world’s biggest stage scoring in both the Champions League semi-final and final against Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. Juventus are aware that they have a gem on their hands and are trying to hold on to him as tight as they can to him. If it means offering a deal on top of his current one as they just did, so be it.
At the moment, the Spaniard has struggled to rekindle his old form and has been particularly wasteful in front of goal. Juventus, however, don’t seem to be bothered by this and have gone ahead as planned. With a new deal in place, it is now up to Morata to decide whether he will reject Real Madrid in favour of a long-term stay in bianconero.
