Hellas Verona defender Rafa Marquez is on his way out of the club and will sign with his boyhood club, Atlas FC in the upcoming transfer window.
Rafa Marquez will be returning to the club he began his senior career with it in 1996, Atlas FC of the Liga MX. As per Gazetta dello Sport, Verona head coach Gigi Delneri announced Marquez’ departure during Saturday’s afternoon press conference:
”At the opening of the January window, the club announced to me that Rafa Marquez will return to play in Mexico. It was a sincere decision and it should not disturb anyone ”. The Mexican international did not feature in Sunday’s 1-1 draw vs Sassuolo as he was out with an injury to his right calf.
Marquez spent the majority of his career at FC Barcelona where he won two Champions League titles, four La Liga titles and a Club World Cup. He also had stints at Monaco, New York Red Bulls and Léon, before signing with Verona last season.
The 36-year-old made 35 appearances for Hellas Verona’s side in the last two seasons picking up three red cards and eight yellow cards.
