Carpi Set Their Transfer Strategy

Second-to-last in Serie A on 10 points and 6 points away from safety, Carpi are not giving up on their dreams of top-flight survival just yet.

I Biancorossi are determined to improve their squad during the January mercato with Sporting Director, Giancarlo Romairone having drawn up a transfer strategy for the Serie A debutantes.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, one of the names at the top of their list is Bologna midfielder Marco Crimi. The former Latina player has only graced the field once for Donadoni’s squad and would surely get the necessary pitch time at Carpi. Another Bologna player sparking their interest is former Serie B capocannoniere Matteo Mancosu who has been unable to regain his scoring touch since joining the club from Trapani last season. Mancosu is identified as a possible replacement for Borriello should the current striker decide to search for greener pastures in January.

Fiorentina has opened discussions with Carpi regarding the availability of former Viola, Ryder Matos however Carpi are reported to be asking for a player in return for their Brazilian forward. Di Marzio reports that Carpi would request midfielder Leonard Capezzi, currently on loan at Crotone but the chances are close to impossible at the moment.

Finally, Cagliari’s 20-year old defender Antonio Barreca is in Carpi’s thoughts but it is a move that seems difficult to complete as Cagliari have no intention of selling him. The other idea is U-21 Italian international and Juventus-owned Alberto Cerri, who also plays for the Serie B table toppers. Cerri has one goal in 11 appearances for Cagliari this season.

With the mercato reopening in three days, Carpi are hoping their transfer strategy will be the starting point of a lengthy fight for Serie A safety.
