Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio was happy with his side’s 3-2 win over Carpi that sees them close off 2015 with seven straight wins in the league.
After the game reporters from Sky caught up with the Italy international to pick his brain about the game. The 29-year-old told reporters,:
“It’s normal that at the beginning the manager was a bit angry, but even we were as we risked the result. We must think about what we did, we recovered from a difficult start and closed 2015 in a positive fashion.”
When asked about the end of the game where Juventus struggled to close the game out, Marchisio said,:
“The game didn’t start in the best of ways, but like in the end of the game we were able to get the better of our opponents which shows that the team is feeling good. In ninety minutes, it’s normal that you conceded some chances and they gave us problems. It shouldn’t happen but at the end of the game we were a bit angry with ourselves because we risked dropping points.”
Marchisio was later asked to give a vote on Juventus’ 2015. The midfielder didn’t want to indulge the reporters and said,:
“I will not give a vote because there are already a lot of people that do that but it was a good year for us. We won two trophies and reached the Champions League final in the first half of the year. Then in the second half we recovered to compete for all our objectives. We advanced in the Coppa Italia and in the Champions League and recovered a lot of points to fight for the Scudetto. We know that it won’t be easy, especially for the young and new players but the team has had a crucial period of growth and the team is getting younger.”
The midfielder then talked about his side’s recovery and their entry into the title race. The veteran midfielder said,:
“I think the most important thing was the growth and integration of the new players. When you come to Juve you can think that everything is good at the beginning. We started off with two defeats which didn’t help. At the beginning we couldn’t talk about the league title, and not even think about it unlike now. We worked hard and grew as a team but we must continue because we’ve accomplished nothing yet. Even if we are competing on all fronts, what matters is how everything ends.”
Marchisio concluded his interview in the holiday spirit and was asked who he would give coal to for Christmas on Juventus due to their poor form earlier in the season. He said,:
“I think I would give everyone a small piece of coal. At the beginning, all of us struggled and everyone was to blame including the older players and the ones who just came. The strength of this group is that we worked together to return to where we wanted to be. We took our coal and now we deserve a present.”
