Atalanta have secured their goalkeeper position for the foreseeable future as Marco Sportiello has signed a renewal until 2020.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Marco Sportiello has signed a renewal with Atalanta that will tie him down to the club until 2020. The following is the club’s official press release following the renewal,:
“Our club, a club that values players that come from the youth system, have decided to renew the contract of our young keeper, who grew up in our primavera and has spent the last three seasons with the first team. In the afternoon, Atalanta and Marco Sportiello have in fact reached an agreement for the extension of his contract until June 2020.”
Sportiello has established himself as a regular in Bergamo and has emerged as one of the finest young keepers in all of Italy. As a result, he’s attracted interest from abroad, most notably from Liverpool. His renewal, however, should close the door to a potential departure and stop clubs from making advances for him.
The 23-year-old made 37 appearances in the league last season and has already featured in 16 of Atalanta’s 17 Serie A games thus far.
