Roma qualified to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League following the underwhelming 0-0 tie at the Stadio Olimpico last evening.
President James Pallotta, an American of Italian descent, spoke to reporters in the mixed zone in English following the match.
The President stood behind his beleaguered squad and staff and defended his men against the media.
“I think the guys came out in the second half and they showed a lot of emotion, and showed a lot of emotion afterwords… And they are going into the 16.”
Pallotta continued in a more aggressive tone with the members of the media present.
“What I’d really like to say is I wish on a daily basis that some of you would leave these guys [the squad] alone, they are a good group of guys, there are a lot good, great young men, and it’s just seriously getting tired on a day by day basis the stuff that some continue to make up and keep beating on these guys. It’s frustrating when you come in here and they are getting whistled at when they pass it back to the goalie, because of the stuff that’s being written or said on the radio all the time. You know, at some point some of you have to grow up and start treating them with the respect they all deserve. They are in the Round of 16 right now, they work hard at it, they all give a [explicit] about it and all of us do too, at some point you all have got to stop beating them up.”
