On loan CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia held nothing back in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport following his failed stint with Roma.
Since his return to the Russian side, he’s scored three goals in two Champions League matches and has scored 6 others in the Russian Premier League.
“I couldn’t ever imagine going back to Italy, even if I have two and a half years left on my contract with Roma, I think we’ll find an agreement. It went really badly for me, the fans started to jeer me from the first game and it never ended until I left. Why? Rudi Garcia made me played right after returning from the African Cup, I probably wasn’t ready.”
“I left Russia because I felt that the moment was right to try a different league – said Doumbia, revealing the reason behind the transfer from last winter – I could have gone to the Premier League, but I chose Roma because the coach was French and for the presence of my fellow compatriot Gervinho. It didn’t work, but perhaps one day I’ll have the luck of going back to a great league again.”
Going back to Moscow was the best solution. I know this club very well and the Russian league. I needed to play, also to continue to be called up to the National team. I’m back 6 months after I left and it’s like I never even left, nothing has really changed.”
