Italy’s transforming football landscape has seen a new wave of youth come into Serie A
With the latest Azzurrini, U-21, squad consisting of 45% Serie A players – an impressive number compared to a few years ago – Italians are beginning to see more opportunities in the smaller clubs of Serie A.
English newspaper, The Guardian, released an article profiling the top 50 youngsters born in 1998, in which two Italians made the cut.
In comparison to other countries, Italy had the same amount represented as Argentina, Norway, Mexico and Germany. England however, had none listed in the top 50.
Manuel Locatelli of AC Milan’s primavera is the first. The Rossoneri’s Director of Youth Scouting Mauro Bianchessi said he “could become the next captain for Milan”.
”He’s a bit [Andrea] Pirlo and a bit [Riccardo] Montolivo,” Bianchessi continued.
The next player is from Calabrese club Crotone in Serie B, who is currently fighting for promotion.
Meet Manuel Nicoletti, born on September 12th, 1998.
Nicoletti has already broken one record, he made an appearance for the senior side at just 15 years of age, according to Transfermarkt.
Playing in the center of defense, Nicoletti will have no shortage of suitors once his time comes in Serie A.
