Milan, Mihajlović: “We have to get back on track”

After a 1-1 draw to last place Hellas Verona, Milan manager Siniša Mihajlović spoke about the result, touching on several topics, including the officiating

Mihajlović, according to the official club site, on the officiating:

“I never talk about the match officials, but seeing as that has brought me no good, I can only say that we were on the receiving end today. We had two goals disallowed and there was a penalty on Bonaventura. We were fools to give away the penalty but we should have won today… I am a good person, but I am not stupid. I don’t want to be made a fool of. We had 18 shots, 7 of which on target, and these are the stats I have available.”

“I don’t know what crossed the referee’s mind when Bonaventura was fouled inside the area. I have never spoken about match officials because I am respectful, but I also call for respect. Today’s standard of refereeing was not acceptable. Looking back at the match, we had two valid goals ruled-out for off-side, which were non-existent, and a stonewall penalty on Bonaventura. We could have done better in certain match situations, but it should not have come to this.”

On the substitutes made in the second half:

Bertolacci was a change that I wanted to make. He needs to build up match fitness again. He, along with Kucka and Cerci, did well coming off the bench.”

On the current situation with the club:

“The atmosphere certainly doesn’t help, but it’s down to us to change that situation. The fans jeer when they’re unhappy but we’re Milan, we have to cover our ears and think about playing and winning.”

The upcoming matches and the TIM Cup:

We now have to get back on track and win the next two matches. Had we won today, we would have had a 2 points per match average. There are still three games to go however until the half-way stage of the season. Let’s see how far we can go…The TIM Cup was always important, regardless of today, and if we play like we know how we can progress to the next round. We’re going there with confidence, and without paying attention to what is being said or reading the papers.”
