Antonio Conte has learned a great deal since becoming Azzurri CT and announces he wants to return to managing a club.
Azzurri CT Antonio Conte fielded questions from the media during a press conference today at Coverciano where he was asked about his future plans after the European Championship, via Tuttomercatoweb:
On his decision after the EURO:
I was correctly asked to clarify my position before the European Championship. I thought over well my decision and I was 100% sure of what I felt. I informed Tavecchio of my decision, the one who had chosen me and who wanted me here. I announced it to him in a very sincere way.
I am sorry that everything is seen as for or against Conte and not for or against the National Team. The National Team is for everyone, it is not subjective but I understand that at times there is more of an appeal to speak about a single individual
On the possibility of managing in England:
At this moment, I am the CT of the National Team, this is a fantastic experience for me. It will be a part of me for the rest of my life, it helped me grow as a manager, it taught me to work and maintain relationships with the players in the little time we have together. This is not a goodbye to Italian football
On his current state of mind:
I have a lot of desire to work. It excites me the fact of having this very important appointment in June. I am ready, I reiterate that this is an experience that can only happen once in a lifetime. I certainly feel a great responsibility and it is inevitable. I believe I have built a hard working group. On paper, there are other National Teams who can be much stronger but we know we can close the gap.
On the media exposure over the next couple of months:
It is a part of the game. If I had not spoken, I would have been accused of not acting correctly. The lack of transparency is the order of the day therefore those who criticizes may have been displaced by my decision to talk about it now. I believe that fairness and transparency always pays off.
On the work being done across the National set-up:
Nowadays, we have worked a lot on the importance of the Azzurri jersey, on the necessity of regaining the desire to wear this glorious jersey and furthermore, to obtain good results. For better or for worse, today comes with great desire for the National Team, we have found the important values. They are a group of players that are growing and can do well. We must continue to work, the youth sector this year has made great progress, also against other National Teams who have almost always beaten us. The work is under the watchful eye of everyone but now, we think about the present moment.
On Chelsea:
Honestly, after the EURO qualifiers in October, I was filled with satisfaction seeing a group who were able to cross the finish line. At that time, I have evaluated the possibility of staying but then another four months passed by without working and it was tough. You have to understand where you are happy, I’d have a hard time staying in the garage.
Chelsea is not a taboo for me but I could speak about other Italians teams too. These choices are never taken lightly. We will see what the future has in store me, whether in Italy or abroad.
On if he has already taken a decision on his future:
The only decision I have made is that I will not be the CT. My intention is to return to a club.
