Simone Zaza laments the team’s performance against Germany and says they took two steps back instead of forward with the loss.
Speaking to Rai in a post-game interview after Italy’s 4-1 defeat to Germany, Simone Zaza shares his disappointment in how the entire team performed:
We had a bad performance, regardless of who the opponent was. Against Spain, we played a great game but today, we took two steps back. We were not phenomenal on Thursday, therefore we must roll up our sleeves. We know we have to work a lot more to do well in France. We did not perform well in attack, we recovered at the start of the 2nd half. They scored the third goal and cut us off at the knees. We have to continue believing in what we are doing.
On what would happen if Germany and Italy met at the EURO:
I do not know but what I can say is that we have to improve. It is better to lose now than to lose at the EURO. We can only be strong if we give it our all, otherwise we are as normal as everyone else.
On the 3-4-3 being effective against teams like Germany:
It is relative. What counts is determination, desire and personality. Four days ago, we played well with the same shape versus Spain.
