“Antonio Conte told me that he will stepping down from the national team job after the European Championship,” said FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio this morning.
“Conte is missing a day-to-day job as a club coach and this is understandable. We have always counted on him and talk to each other almost every day. We will evaluate the situation calmly and accept his decision. He has always worked with dedication and professionalism. He has helped Italy to improve their image as a national team and I am very grateful for that” added Tavecchio.
The method for choosing the next coach is clear: “We will complete all of the necessary steps because the national team is our main interest” continued Tavecchio. There is still a question hanging over the training schedule ahead of the European Championship: “We expected more from the league and right now we are working hard to find a solution which will allow the Azzurri can have the best preparation possible for the European competition.”
The latest reports from multiple sources are clearly indicating that Conte will be moving to Chelsea and start a new adventure in England.
