Roma president Pallotta: “Totti is interested in playing in Miami”

The 39-year old legendary Italian has played the entirety of his career in Rome with the giallorossi, but club president James Pallotta insists that Francesco Totti has desire to continue playing football beyond this year, with Miami, Florida as a possible destination.

Francesco Totti has spent his entire playing career with Roma, dating back to 1989. While he would love to continue taking the pitch professionally, it’s apparent that his career is reaching the final chapter. He has fallen out of favor with manager Luciano Spalletti and has seen his playing time greatly diminish right in the midst of his beloved club’s run towards Champions League football for next season.

With Totti’s contract set to expire this summer, and his spot no longer certain, club president James Pallotta would love to have the Italian star take a management role. However, according to Goal.com, Pallotta insists the player aims to extend his career past 2015-16, with Miami, Florida as a possible stop. Here is what the president had to say about the situation surrounding Totti:

“The situation with Francesco is really hard. I’d like him to become part of the management, but he’d prefer to continue playing. The captain said he was interested in going to play in Miami, but they don’t [yet] have a club in Major League Soccer. He could be interested in moving to New York though.”

This season, the former azzurri star has only appeared in 6 Serie A matches, collecting one goal and 2 assists. While Totti is still loved and adored by supporters of the club, they also understand the time may have arrived for Totti to step aside. Currently, the club is riding an eight match win streak, and control sole possession of third place, good for Champions League qualification for 2016-17.
