Sigh of Relief: Juventus talisman Bonucci out for limited time

Juventus fans had a heart stopping moment on Tuesday when their star defender Leonardo Bonucci went down while on international duty with Italy. It turns out after tests ran on Wednesday that the injury is not as severe as it appeared.

The 28-year-old was stretchered off of the field during Italy’s 4-1 loss to Germany on Tuesday in an international friendly. Bonucci went down attempting to stop a German breakaway, but the defending World Cup champions scored on the play. During the German celebrations, the medical team came on to examine the Juve star and he was taken off.

Bonucci told RAI Sport that he “heard a crack and was in pain”.

Many were concerned that he could miss a large chunk of time, some even speculating that if he had surgery, he could miss Euro 2016, but both the bianconeri and the azzurri are fortunate to hear that the defender will miss only three days to rest after his injury.

Juventus is still clinging to a three point lead in Serie A over Napoli and are attempting to win their fifth straight scudetto. The Old Lady also has the Coppa Italia final to look forward to against Milan. Bonucci will play an integral part in those competitions as well as for Italy in the Euros.

The defender is suspended for Juve’s match against Empoli on Saturday, so that will give him more of an opportunity to fully recover.
