Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri had a post-match interview with Sky Sport following his club’s 3-1 victory against Genoa at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday night, where he commented on multiple topics.
Sarri’s comments on the satisfaction of the victory and the opponents:
“It was our pleasure to make the fans happy because they deserved it, and when it is possible to make them happy then it also makes us happy. The atmosphere you can feel in this stadium is extremely beautiful and special. We faced a team in a great physical and mental state, so the fact that we went a goal under complicated the matter and we became nervous. We played a great second half with a great will to get the result, with so many favorable opportunities. They are an excellent side and in great health; they sought out to play their game. If all teams played with the attitude that Genoa does, we would see more enjoyable matches and our league would be considered more.”
On playing during this time in the year and Napoli’s defense:
“The schedule? At this time in the season, you play one half with natural light and one with artificial light; in this period of time it is a very strange schedule. This is a time when the team is defending very well, but clearly by conceding the goal tonight we conceded something to our opponents. When looking at the defense we are recording good numbers; we are allowing few shots on target.”
On how the team should start off games and the Scudetto race with Juventus:
“It is true that one can recover, but it is time to take the lead at home, also because the past few games we are getting used to going under. It would be worth it to do the opposite and start off with the advantage instead. I do not know if Juventus can be reached, but we like to go forward game by game, offer good football and make the fans happy. In the lead there is a team that has achieved 58 out of 60 points, so the fact that we are three points away from them makes our season extraordinary; in other circumstances we would be in first place in the standings. The Derby? I have not seen anything.”
