James Pallotta discusses the topic of Francesco Totti’s renewal and the commotion it is causing in the city of Rome.
Speaking to Sky Sport via Boston, Roma President James Pallotta reveals the pressure he is getting from the city to give Francesco Totti a new contract:
At Roma, we have one of probably the greatest footballers in Italy and it is Francesco Totti. Francesco is 39 years old and is still a talent of immense quality but I think that it is obvious to him and to many other people, that he cannot play the same way as before. He simply cannot. His body is not doing what his mind wants him to do. His contract expires this year and everyone wants a renewal.
The pressure from the city of Roma to renew his contract is incredible. I have had many conversations with him. I told him he will be at Roma for the next 30 years and to think about how he quits. I do not think it is hard to understand but it is for the Italian culture, to see a player of his caliber who has sold a record number of jerseys, is the symbol of Roma and will be at the club for 30-40 years, in another role. After all, when you think of a player the caliber of Messi or Ronaldo, and that player is an icon, you should know that it will influence the style of play of the rest of the squad.
