Joey Saputo confirms his club’s main goal is to remain in Serie A and states that it has been a tough year for his squad.
Ahead of his club’s match against Carpi this weekend, Bologna President Joey Saputo spoke with Sky Sport and talked about the importance of his club staying focused on the objective of remaining in Serie A:
The objective this year is to secure safety and to control expectations. Everybody says: ‘Now that we are in Serie A, we must qualify for Europe’. For me, the objective is to be better than the other three teams (in the relegation zone) to avoid returning to Serie B. It has been a difficult year but I am satisfied with how things are going now.
When I arrived at Bologna, they were suffering a bit. We said right away that it was important to bring Bologna back up to Serie A. We arrived in December, the squad was doing okay but not great. The most difficult match I have ever seen, was the last game against Pescara when we drew, because our first objective was to bring Bologna to Serie A and that night, we were a minute away from missing out on our objective. We also suffered because we made changes to the squad in January, we changed Sporting Director then manager. It was a difficult year.
