Juventus faced Sassuolo in Week 28 of this Serie A season, looking to stay top of the table. The bianconeri found a 1-0 victory off of a 36th minute strike from Paulo Dybala. Juve were also able to keep their record 10th straight clean sheet in the Italian top tier.
This is how we rated the individual performances of Juve’s players following their match against Sassuolo.
Goalkeeper
Buffon (9.0): Didn’t have much to do for most of the game due to Juve’s impressive defense. Made some great saves near the end of the match to keep the clean sheet. Passed Dino Zoff for second all-time in Serie A by not conceding a goal in 926 minutes of play.
Defense
Barzagli (8.5): The catalyst of Juve’s strong defense this year, Barzagli had another impressive performance in the bianconeri’s three-man backline. Found himself getting forward on some plays and set up a scoring opportunity.
Bonucci (8.5): Exceptional defensively clogging up the middle and not allowing Sassuolo to find lanes.
Rugani (8.0): Showed resilience after a not-so-great performance against Inter in the Coppa Italia. The young Italian made very few mistakes and had a couple of impressive tackles.
Midfielders
Cuadrado (8.5): Another impressive showing from the Chelsea loanee. The Colombian international danced around the Sassuolo defense before sending a pass to Dybala in perfect position for his game winner.
Khedira (7.0): Not an unimpressive performance. The Germany international played well, but skied an opportunity to score on a wide open net from point blank range. The former Real Madrid man was able to win the ball back in the midfield on a few opportunities.
Marchisio (7.0): A knock in the first half may have hampered his performance, but it didn’t seem to be a severe injury. Played possession football well.
Asamoah (6.5): Wasn’t able to get much going and was mostly overshadowed by Alex Sandro on the left side of the midfield.
Alex Sandro (8.5): Another impressive performance patrolling down the left flank. Made good passes and strong tackles as well as created opportunities going forward. The Brazilian international is becoming a key player in the race for the Scudetto.
Strikers
Paulo Dybala (8.5): A game winner and his 14th league goal this year highlighted Dybala’s night. He was also impressive dropping back into midfield and winning the ball back before transitioning back up the pitch. His performance tonight reminded me a lot of Tevez last season.
Mandzukic (7.0): The Croatian was not able to find a goal and didn’t have many golden opportunities. His most impressive performance tonight was on defense where he made tackles and kept the ball in possession for Juve.
Substitutes
Paul Pogba (6.0): There were rumors that he was benched by Massimiliano Allegri due to a string of sub-par performances. He came into the game in the 72nd minute and had one golden opportunity from a powerful strike, but the goal was saved by Sassuolo’s keeper Consigli.
Morata (N/A): The player was not on the pitch enough to properly assess his performance.
Lichtsteiner (N/A): The player was not on the pitch enough to properly assess his performance.
