Napoli Player Ratings vs Palermo

The Partenopei took a hard fought 1-0 win at the Renzo Barbera to put them three points behind league leaders Juventus.

Here’s how we rated the Napoli players and their individual performances following the 1-0 win.

REINA (6)– Despite not having much action, Commissario Pepe Reina kept a couple of potentially dangerous shots out and kept the clean sheet.

ALBIOL (6)– Didn’t have to defend all too much today as he and Koulibaly kept Vazquez and Gilardino quiet for most of the game. Although he did win the penalty for Napoli which won the boys in blue the game.

KOULIBALY (6.5)– Had a little bit more to do than Albiol today seeing as Vazquez was put on his side of the pitch but defended really well and kept a couple dangerous attacks under control.

HYSAJ (6.5)– Was attacking very well throughout the game and defended the right flank pretty well with help from Allan. Put in some decent crosses but the Palermo defenders got to most of them before Napoli forwards.

GHOULAM (7)– Ghoulam was a real threat down the left attacking wise and defended Vazquez with great determination. Ghoulam and Insigne were always looking to create a dangerous attack and that caused the Palermo defenders to move over to there side more often than not.

ALLAN (7.5)– Again the Brazilian warrior is one of the best players on the pitch today. Created great attacks, put in a lot of good tackles and gave the Napoli team that “cazzima” that they needed.

JORGINHO (7.5)– Jorginho controlled the game with his lightning quick and accurate passes and created loads of opportunities with his ability to create space and put passes onto the others’s feet.

HAMSIK (5.5)– Not a good game today for the Napoli captain as he misplaced a few passes, and gave away a few key balls and offensively didn’t offer much other than a couple shots from outside the box.

INSIGNE (8)– The hometown hero tonight put on a bit of show making himself a threat from the very beginning of the game. Had a few chances to open up the scoring and also had chances to make it 2-0 but Sorrentino made a few good saves to prevent Insigne from scoring.

HIGUAIN (6)– Higuain, besides the penalty, was a bit lackluster today. Sure he made a few good passes that created chances, but he had several opportunities to increase the lead over Palermo and blew the chances in front of goal. Nice to see that he also scored from the penalty spot and that he keeps his insane scoring record in the Serie A going.

CALLEJON (6)– Jose Maria wasn’t his usual self today. He was either outplayed by Pezzella, the Palermo left back, or he was caught offside or he would misplace a pass. Just not his day and was rightfully subbed off for Mertens.

SUBSTITUTES

MERTENS (6.5)– The Belgian put in a decent performance when he came on. Had a golden opportunity to score but it was a volley from a difficult position and Sorrentino saved his shot but his pace and dribbling changed the game for Napoli and became an instant threat.

DAVID LOPEZ (6.5)– David Lopez also had a positive impact coming on for the off form Napoli captain. He created a couple chances, including a beautiful pass to Higuain which could’ve made it 2-0, and defended quite well in the last 10 minutes of play.

EL KADDOURI (N/A)– Came on for a tired Insigne and was there just to defend the ball and possibly create another chance for Napoli.
