Pirlo the American, “I could stay in New York”

Pirlo hints to life in America after retirement.

Andrea Pirlo has perfectly integrated into American life. The ex-Milan and Juventus player, currently at NYCFC, spoke to The New York Times about his like if the Big Apple: “I always wanted to come play here, I didn’t think it would be so soon, and now I’m not opposed to staying here, it could be interesting.”

Pirlo’s life in New York is good, and it’s not just because of his 2.3 million dollar a year salary, and not because the MLS is constantly growing, it’s the calm walks through Manhattan, visiting the Guggenheim museum, also he can calmly have a meal at the Felidia restaurant, owned by his partner Valentina Baldini.

It’s everything, and that is what he said to The New York Times, “Just being able to go out to the trendiest restaurants, in Italy I can’t do that.” He then compared it to how it was like when he played Juventus, “‘‘There were times we were kept in our dressing room until late at night because it wasn’t safe to go home,’’ he says. ‘‘Our bus would get attacked, the tires slit.’’

He still has ties to Italy, in fact he continues to order his clothes directly from Italy; but he has started learning English and watching American Football, which he has been following since his arrival in the US. He has said that once he has gained mastery of the English language, he has one goal, to see a Broadway show.
