Who is Caprari?
Born in Rome, Caprari began his career at a local team called Atletico 2000. At the age of ten, Caprari joined Serie A giants, Roma and would eventually spend over nine years within the club’s various youth levels. Caprari would eventually make his name in 2010 at the Torneo Citta di Arco tournament, where Roma’s Allievi Nazionali team would beat Fiorentina in the final. The next season, Caprari would become one of Roma’s primavera rising star players and made his first team debut, replacing Simone Perrotta in the Champions League round of 16 against Shakhtar Donetsk. Caprari ended the season with a total of 6 goals in 20 appearances, helping Roma’s Primavera win the title.
During the 11/12 season, Caprari would play a larger role with the senior team, playing in both legs of Roma’s Europa League play-off round. He would also go on to win the Primavera Coppa Italia. During the winter mercato, Caprari completed a move to Pescara on loan. He would play a role in helping Pescara win the Serie B title and gain promotion by scoring three goals in 15 matches. At the end of the 2012 season, Pescara purchased Caprari in a co-ownership deal worth 1.5 million euros. The following season, Caprari made a total of 24 appearances, only scoring twice in the process as Pescara failed to stay in Serie A.
Following Pescara’s regelation to Serie B at the end of the 12/13 season, Roma reclaimed full ownership of Caprari’s contract with two Roma youth player heading the other way. However, Caprari would only make one appearance for Roma before returning to Pescara six months later during the winter mercato.
Caprari’s return to Pescara was initially a disappointment as he would go on to score five goals and 1 assist during a spell of two seasons. However, Caprari would eventually flourish under the management of AC Milan legend, Massimo Oddo who took over the reins of the club on May 2015. Under Oddo, Caprari has developed a flourishing partnership with fellow Italian countryman, Gianluca Lapadula. Scoring an impressive 9 goals and 6 assists so far in the 15/16 Serie B season.
Caprari’s form with both Roma’s Primavera and Pescara would lead him to being called up to the Italian national team under various youth levels. Starting with the U-18, scoring a single goal in 4 appearances. Caprari would later be promoted to the U-19 team, making a total of three appearances and scoring once before making two appearances for the U-20 team.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Caprari is a versatile attacking player, being able to play on the left wing or in the center as a Secondary Striker or Centre Forward. Caprari is a very quick and skillful player with the ball, often demonstrating to have great vision and creativity. Caprari’s playing style is reminiscent to that of former Pescara star and current Italian International, Lorenzo Insigne. The young Neapolitan has showed this season not only to be one the best players in Italy, but one of the best in the world. Like Insigne, Caprari has the skills with both the ball and on set pieces as well as the creativity to emulate his fellow countryman.
One major weakness that Caprari and other players of similar attributes to him, tend to struggle with is a lack of physical presences and strength on the field. Players like Caprari often struggle to keep possession and make a significant impact on the pitch when confronting a physically demanding side. Although history has shown that various players who lack a physical presence, can still thrive in world football. Only time will tell how Caprari will cope with this weakness in later points in his career and on a bigger stage such as a European tournament or in International football.
Another weakness that could affect Caprari’s development is a lack of consistency. Although Caprari has shown in the past to be one of Italy’s most promising players and is currently thriving at Pescara. There have been various periods in Caprari’s career where he has shown a lack of consistency in form as well as failing to establish himself as a core player within a team. Although this is not a physical weakness, many players have been plagued by this problem and can lead to a significant decline in a player’s career.
