PREVIEW: Roma vs Fiorentina: Who will win this pivotal clash?

Last couple weeks we’ve gotten Serie A classics, Juve-Napoli, Juve-Inter & Fiorentina-Napoli.

Now Roma and Fiorentina meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night which promises to be a great tactical and mental battle. They are calling it a match worth 6 points as the two sides are currently tied for 3rd place.
Let’s paint the picture – Roma, the hosts are on a fantastic 6 game winning streak in Serie A which has seen them score 18 and concede only 4. Also they have also won Serie A goal of the week for each matchday. Fiorentina come into the game in decent form but can be hit with tired legs. Last Thursday they played away in England to Tottenham and lost 3-0, then Monday played in an intense and hard fought 1-1 draw with Napoli, Roma will have a lot more rest than Fiorentina. It’s actually very possible we see fatigue hit them throughout the match and it could allow Roma to pounce on them with guys like Salah and El Shaarawy, both who are in great form and have a lot of pace and energy.
Of course it’s worth noting in the reverse fixture at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, Roma won 2-1 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Gervinho. A lot has changed at Roma since then, most notably the sacking of Rudi Garcia and the appointment of Luciano Spalletti.
Regarding team news, Spalletti confirmed in his pre-match press conference that both Pjanic and Nainggolan will play tomorrow, which is a big boost for Roma. It’s expected that Roma will lineup in a 4-2-3-1. Szczesny in goal, Florenzi and Digne full backs. Manolas partnering with Rudiger. Nainggolan with Keita in the 2 and Salah, Pjanic, El Shaarawy in the 3 with Perotti as the false 9 over Dzeko. Though, it is possible Dzeko finds his way into the 11.
For Fiorentina it’s expected that they also lineup in a 4-2-3-1. Tatarusanu will be in goal, Roncaglia, Astori, Rodriguez and Alonso. Baldej and Vecino in the holding midfield roles. Tello, Valero & Bernadeschi behind the #9 Kalinic.
This match promises to be a very good one. On one hand you have a Roma team in fantastic form playing some of the best football under Luciano Spalletti, on the other hand you have a well set up Fiorentina side led by Paulo Sousa. Two great coaches, two great teams, who comes out on top?
