Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media and expressed his delight at the result but wasn’t happy with the second half.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, the former Milan boss was asked about his future. He said,:
“My future? I have a year left on my deal, I’m at a big club already.”
Are 23 more points enough for the Scudetto?
“This win means we need one less, there are ten games left. It was a good first half. In the second half, we wasted a few chances and then in the final thirty minutes we didn’t control the game. It was clear that the field made this nearly impossible.”
What did you like the most?
“Our approach. We could have scored right away and doubled our lead. Then in the second half we didn’t play.”
Barzagli and Lemina scored.
“I’m happy for them. Andrea is often at the back defensive. He deserves this satisfaction.”
Is the defence the base of this team?
“That’s normal. If you don’t concede goals, the team has a number of players who will score. The teams with the best defences win the league. The big teams score anywhere in between of 65 to 90 goals. If you don’t concede many, you will win. This year may be different. Our midfielders also help a lot in this regard, it’s not only our defenders.”
Is this Juve stronger than last year?
“It’s a different team. We have ten new players. There are Mandzukic, Khedira and many young players. We lost Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez.”
Mandzukic sacrifices a lot for the team but doesn’t score. How is he handling this?
“Well. He’s a generous player. He sacrifices himself and can read games. Today he could have scored but it’s important that he plays like this. It’s a personal characteristic of his. With different characteristics, he replaced Tevez.”
Typically, your teams are in good shape and form in March. Is this the case now?
“A sudden drop in play is caused by a mistake in managing. Atalanta weren’t pressing and we couldn’t make certain errors. We didn’t need to speed things up because errors come that way. We have to read the games better.”
Pogba angered you and you sent Asamoah to warm up. Did Pogba realize this?
“I don’t know. I only know that after his booking at the end of the first half he played anxiously and stopped playing. If Paul plays simply, he makes the difference. If he plays anxiously, he does nothing.”
You are a candidate for the best manager in Serie A award. Who will you vote for?
“Donadoni. He did something marvellous with Parma. Even Pioli has done really well getting to the Coppa Italia final.”
You won’t vote for yourself?
“Absolutely not. They deserve it more than me.”
